The Harvest at Just Love was a hit and we can’t thank the wonderful owners and staff at Just Love Mt. Juliet for hosting and providing care for those in need.
We are planning on being in the Mt Juliet Christmas parade this year on December 9th, hope to see all of you out there! 🎄
Lawn Care Tips
Mowing:
Give your lawn a final mow before winter. Gradually reduce the mowing height over the fall, but avoid cutting the grass too short. Shorter grass is more prone to stress and disease during the winter.
Remove Leaves and Debris:
Rake up leaves and debris to prevent them from smothering the grass. A thick layer of leaves can block sunlight and promote fungal diseases.
Aeration:
If your soil is compacted, consider aerating your lawn. Aerating helps improve soil drainage and allows nutrients to penetrate the root zone more effectively. This is best done in the fall.
Fertilization:
Apply a winter fertilizer with a balanced or higher phosphorus and potassium content. This encourages root growth and helps the grass withstand winter stress. Follow the recommended application rates on the fertilizer packaging.
Overseeding:
If your lawn has thin or bare patches, overseed with a cold-tolerant grass seed. This helps fill in gaps and promotes a denser lawn. Water the newly seeded areas adequately.
Watering:
Ensure your lawn is well-hydrated before winter. Deeply water the lawn a few days before the first freeze to help prevent winter desiccation. However, reduce watering as the temperatures drop.
Garden Cleanup:
Clean up the garden beds and remove any dead annuals or spent perennials. Trim back any overgrown or dead foliage from shrubs and trees. This helps prevent pests and diseases from overwintering.
Protect Plants:
For sensitive plants and shrubs, consider applying a layer of mulch around the base to protect the roots from freezing temperatures. Be cautious not to pile mulch against the trunk of trees or stems of plants.
Drain Irrigation Systems:
If you have an irrigation system, drain it to prevent freezing and potential damage to pipes. Water left in the system can expand and cause cracks.
Clean and Store Equipment:
Clean and properly store your lawn care equipment. Drain fuel from gas-powered tools to prevent carburetor issues. Store tools in a dry place to prevent rust.
Winterize Garden Structures:
If you have garden structures such as trellises or arbors, inspect them for damage and make any necessary repairs. Consider bringing lightweight or fragile items indoors to prevent damage from winter storms.
