🌱 Lawn Care Tips for April 2025
1. Start Mowing Regularly
Begin mowing as your grass starts to grow (usually when it hits about 3-4 inches tall).
Keep your mower blades sharp for a clean cut.
Don’t cut more than 1/3 of the grass height at a time.
2. Apply Pre-Emergent Weed Control (If Not Done in March)
Early April is the last window to apply pre-emergent herbicides to prevent crabgrass and other summer weeds.
Use a product labeled safe for your grass type (Bermuda, Zoysia, Fescue, etc.).
3. Fertilize Warm-Season Grasses (Mid to Late April)
Bermuda & Zoysia Lawns: Apply a slow-release nitrogen fertilizer when soil temps reach 65°F consistently.
4. Overseed Bare Spots (Cool-Season Lawns Only)
If you have a Fescue lawn and missed fall overseeding, you can lightly overseed in early April.
Keep the soil moist for good seed-to-soil contact.
5. Watering
April showers help, but if it’s dry, water your lawn deeply 1–2 times a week.
Early morning watering is best to reduce disease risk.
6. Aeration
Warm-season lawns (Bermuda/Zoysia) can be aerated this month, especially if the soil is compacted.
Wait to aerate cool-season lawns (Fescue) until fall.
7. Watch for Pests & Diseases
Keep an eye out for mole crickets, grubs, and fungus – especially in areas with poor drainage or heavy shade.
8. Clean Up
Remove leaves, sticks, and debris that can smother grass and promote disease.
9. Edge & Trim Beds
Redefine borders around flower beds and sidewalks to give your yard a clean, professional look.
10. Mulch Time!
Freshen up your mulch beds – it helps retain moisture and control weeds.
