May 2025

What’s New this Month?

Hey Neighbors!

May is one of the most important months for lawn health in Tennessee! As temperatures rise and rainfall becomes more frequent, your grass shifts into full growth mode. This is when your lawn builds strength to survive summer heat and drought, and we’re here to make sure it does.

Here’s what you can expect this month and how we’ll help keep your lawn at its peak:

🌱 What to Expect from Your Lawn in May (Middle TN Conditions)

 Fast Grass Growth:
Cool-season grasses like fescue are still active, and warm-season grasses (like Bermuda or Zoysia) are waking up. Expect a noticeable boost in growth!

 Weed Pressure Peaks:
Crabgrass, dandelions, and clover are aggressive right now. Without proper treatment, they can take over quickly.

 Soil Warm-Up:
As soil temps pass 60°F, it’s prime time for warm-season lawns to green up and become dense—especially Bermuda.

 Humidity & Fungus Risk:
May moisture and heat = increased risk of fungal issues (brown patch, dollar spot). Prevention is key!

What MrGreenTrades is Doing in May

1. Scheduled Lawn Mowing

  • Weekly/biweekly service tailored to your grass type and growth rate

  • Cutting at the ideal height to support deeper roots and reduce weed spread

2. Spring Weed Control & Fertilization Treatments

  • We’re applying post-emergent weed control for broadleaf invaders

  • Fertilizer blends are customized for warm- and cool-season lawns

3. Spot Fungus Inspections

  • We’re watching for early signs of disease, especially in shaded or overwatered areas

  • Preventive fungicide options available if needed

4. Mulching & Landscape Touch-Ups

  • May is a great time to mulch before heat sets in—ask us if your beds need a refresh

  • We also offer trimming and flower bed maintenance per request.

💡 Tips for Homeowners

  • Watering: Water deeply 2–3 times per week in the morning. Avoid evening watering—it promotes disease.

  • Grass Clippings: Leave clippings on the lawn—they return nutrients naturally.

  • Don’t Cut Too Low: Mow high to shade the soil, improve drought resistance, and prevent weeds.

🌟 Thinking Ahead: Summer Prep Starts Now

  • If you’re on cool-season grass (like fescue), now’s the time to build up strength before summer stress

  • Warm-season lawns (like Bermuda/Zoysia) should start to thrive—we’ll be adjusting care accordingly

MrGreenTrades is here to help your lawn handle the transition from spring to summer—stronger, greener, and weed-free. Let us know if you’d like to upgrade your plan or need help with something extra.
