Summer Heat Is Here – What to Expect From Your Lawn This Month
As we move into the heart of summer in Middle Tennessee, your lawn is entering one of the most demanding times of the year. Here's how the season will affect your yard – and what MrGreenTrades is doing to keep it healthy, green, and looking its best:
🌱 Turf Growth Slowing Down
Cool-season grasses like fescue will start to slow their growth and may begin to thin out as soil temperatures rise.
Warm-season grasses (like Bermuda and Zoysia) will be thriving, spreading quickly and becoming denser.
Expect less mowing for fescue, but we may maintain a weekly schedule to control weeds and keep your lawn neat.
🌾 Heat & Drought Stress
June in our area brings high humidity and temps in the 80s–90s, which can cause turf to wilt or turn brown if not properly watered.
We’ll monitor your lawn for signs of stress, disease, or fungus, which are more likely to show up with the added heat.
Lawns not on irrigation may see some dormancy—this is normal and your grass will bounce back with proper care.
💧 Irrigation & Watering Tips
Water deeply 2–3 times per week rather than daily. Aim for about 1 inch per week, including rainfall.
Early morning is best—watering at night can cause disease.
We recommend checking sprinkler coverage to avoid dry patches.
🌿 Weed Pressure Increases
Summer weeds like spurge, nutsedge, and crabgrass become aggressive in June.
We’ll be applying spot treatments as needed and advising if extra weed control services are necessary.
📅 What We’re Doing This Month:
Weekly or biweekly mowing based on your lawn type.
Trimming & edging for clean borders and curb appeal.
Monitoring for heat stress, weeds, and lawn disease.
Optional: Summer fertilization for warm-season lawns.
🔔 Friendly Reminders:
Keep pets indoors and gates unlocked on service days.
If you notice lawn discoloration or bare spots, reach out—we’ll inspect it!
